Maruton's travel diary: Machu Picchu Travel #2 - The first day (4.27), Narita departure to Lima.

　　18:15 NRT (Tokyo: Narita Intl Airport) → 16:05 ORD (Chicago: O'Hare Intl Airport)
　　18:00 ORD (Chicago: O'Hare Intl Airport) → 22:10 MIA (Miami: Miami Intl Airport)
　　23:55 MIA (Miami: Miami Intl Airport) → 4.28 4:30 LIM (Lima: Jorge Chávez Intl Airport)
　　* All Flights are American Airlines.

On the first day, I was moving whole day.

Though Chicago arrival time was two hours before the departure time of Narita, the flight time was 12 hours for the time difference. The time difference is 14 hours between Tokyo and Chicago. The time required from Chicago to Miami is about three hours as well, from Miami to Lima is five hours.
Total moving time, include waiting was over 24 hours.

Limousine bus

I went by limousine bus from Yokohama YCAT to the Narita Airport.
Usually I go to Narita airport to arrive before three hours of a flight, but always I have too much time on my hands at the airport after the departure procedures.
As I thought to try to arrive at the airport two hours before the flight, I went on the bus to arrive 16 o'clock.

I arrived at Narita airport just 16 o'clock of two hours before.

Narita intl airport

○At the check-in counter

(I) Check-in please.
(Ground Staff) Do you have a visa for America?
(I) No I don't. Need it?
(Ground Staff) You need it only transportation. if you have a laptop, you can get using it. or you can also use internet terminals over there. it isn't possible to issue a flight ticket without it.
(I) I understand. come back soon.

She also said to me it is possible to use smartphone too, so I tried at first by smartphone. but I found it difficult for too small monitor. so I went to use internet terminal after that. it took more than 30 minutes to get it.

I was able to get it somehow.

I got flight tickets.

Ground staff said to me that as is often the case someone would get a failure to yield ticket for crowded system of ESTA in weekend.
Though this day was not only Saturday but also the first day of Japanese golden week, it was really good ticketing in time.

I did the exchange at GPA which has a good reputation for a rate of exchange of the dollar.

Flight

○Narita - Chicago

Ham was piled seven.

○Chicago Airport
I waited long time in immigration of Chicago Airport as examination of each person is long. I was in line about 4-50 minutes until 10 minutes before boarding time.
I insisted on being in a hurry. but a person in charge who had arranged said to me that if you will use American Airline, no problem, you should be OK, but I'm sorry . . . maybe a lot of person are in a hurry.

And I picked up the luggage once after immigration. I went through the custom having all my luggage, I left my luggage again immediately after that, and I went to the boarding gate of the next domestic airline.

One more thing.
In American Airlines, headset service was not free in the airplane between Narita to Chicago. Therefore I didn't use it.
I bought new one at the Chicago airport.

Ｉt was only this flight that headset service was not free.
But I think there was annoying noise of airplane by free headset, so you had better bring this type of earphone entering ears back when you ride American Airlines.

My boarding time had already passed in doing such a thing, and I went to the gate in a harry to ride airplane.

○Chicago - Miami

Small rainbow pattern could be seen in the shadow of the airplane.

I arrived at Miami of the second transit airport.

It seems that temporary luggage pickup was needed only when we go through the custom at the airport entering United States.
So your luggage would never come out at the Baggage Claim of second transit airport.
Please do not wait at Baggage Claim. Unlike me!
